Final Day of the Kalachakra On May 4th, at the full moon, I did my final Kalachakra meditation. The image I came away with was transformative: I saw the figure of the Dalai Lama seated in a lotus posture. Like the earlier image of the knight, he was completely transparent, though his outline was not black, but dark and richly coloured with deep blues and purples. As I watched, I heard the words "He is complete" and saw his ribcage open out into a book. I heard further words, "For all to read." I understood that the ceremony was over and had been successfully completed. When our guests, Lawa Rinpoche and his wife Marietta, returned that evening, they confessed to being both exhausted and exhilarated by what they had experienced. To me they seemed charged with positive energy. The next day, I attended the final day of the Kalachakra ceremony and was fortunate to sit in on the Dalai Lama's Long Life Initiation Ceremony. As expected, he was seated in a lotus posture on a raised platform. To my human eyes, however, he did not appear transparent. During a break in the ceremony, we were all invited to go up on stage and see the sand Mandala that the monks had completed over the previous 10 days. Contained in a glass shrine approximately 10 ft square, the design was extraordinarily beautiful and intricate, resembling a fine multi-coloured weave. That afternoon, the Dalai Lama "broke" the energy of the Kalachakra's Mandala and a slow scooping-up process began. It ended with the scattering of the sand in Lake Ontario to allow the remaining energy to be filtered out into the world. The Dalai Lama and the Kalachakra An extraordinary spiritual event is occurring in Toronto right now until the 5th of May, 2004. The Dalai Lama is giving his 29th Kalachakra, which is certain to be one of his last. The Kalachakra is a momentous energy-raising event in which the Dalai Lama takes on, over a period of days, the vibrations of the deity associated with the Kalachakra, or Wheel of Time, and transmits it to others. For those unfamiliar with either Buddhism or energy work it may sound bizarre. To anyone who has experienced Reiki, channeling, or any kind of energy transmission, however, it will make sense. The event culminates with the full moon on the 4th of May, a day associated with the first Kalachakra 2500 years ago. The purpose of the Kalachakra is to raise the world's peace vibrations, something urgently needed at this time. No matter what your faith, it's possible to "tune in" to this energy, no matter where you are, and either share in it or contribute to it by meditating and praying. If you can, spend a few minutes of your day imagining peace and adding to this powerful vibration. Then watch for something out of the ordinary to manifest in your life. The vibrations of the Kalachakra are extraordinarily powerful and will manifest even to those unaccustomed to dealing with this sort of phenomenon. It's like seeing a comet with the naked eye - almost anyone can do it when it's this close! Not being a Buddhist, I didn't know what to expect. I had been working with the energy for about a month in preparation when I got the first inkling of what it would bring. I received a phone call from a friend who was looking for lodging for two friends of hers, a practicing Rinpoche (reincarnated Buddhist Master) and his wife. Lawa Rinpoche and his wife, Marietta, are currently our guests as they attend the event. On my first attempt at contacting the energy of the Kalachakra I was amazed by how powerful it is. My first image was the following: with my eyes closed, I envisaged a knight in full armour coming towards me, outlined in black and completely transparent. In his arms, held out in front of him at waist level, he carried a sword horizontally. Drawing near, he placed it on the ground. Keep in mind that I am working from a Western tradition of meditation, so the images I see reflect that reality. Because the knight was transparent, as I watched I saw a whole realm of landscapes through the image. I felt I was watching the whole of the earth in a golden sunset glow. When my meditation was finished, and I thought about it consciously, I understood the knight to be both a symbol of strength and a laying down of arms. This was the invocation of the peace being sought. Further, I understood it to mean that the whole of the earth was at a critical time in history - sunset. What I didn't understand till two days later, after a dream prompting further understanding of it, was that not only was I seeing all of physical space through this image, but all of time as well: the Wheel of Time. When you comprehend the complexity of this symbol, you get an idea of just how powerful the Kalachakra really is. Other symbols that I was able to catch included a Lion guarding the Pyramid of Ghiza in the dead of night (where many of the great initiations took place thousands of years ago), a snake swallowing its tail (a Buddhist image of the universe and eternity.) I also glimpsed the Dalai Lama, Himself, laying out the coloured sand of the Mandala (a circular image representing the universe) being built on the Exhibition grounds. As he bent to scatter the sand, I watched him transform into an ancient Buddhist warrior, possibly the first one to give the Kalachakra thousands of years ago.
